Trees Fall in Brookland

So, we had a really intense, 20 minute thunderstorm yesterday afternoon. We were enjoying watching it from the porch until the lightweight porch rug was blown so that it totally covered Quinn! Then we enjoyed watching it through the windows. Power lines were swaying and small tree branches were flying on our street, and Quinn's toy plastic bucket got blown and/ or washed around the corner and stuck in the storm drain.

It was very dramatic. When we went for a walk to the Basilica (Tim took some lovely pictures) we saw that many trees had suffered serious damage:

And one quite large tree was knocked down entirely.

The traffic lights were also out at Michigan and Monroe:

For the drivers along Michigan Ave, things were pretty exciting, with a fallen branch blocking 2 of the 4 lanes right before the intersection with no stoplights. It was fortunate that not too many people seemed to be out driving on Sunday afternoon.
